Roger Bauer, 75, was struck by a truck near Walker Road just before 7 p.m. on Monday evening. Bauer was on his way to get his mail when the accident occurred.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the truck was headed southbound when it struck Bauer in the 6400 block of Walker Road. The driver, whose identity has not been revealed, remained at the scene of the crash.
Family members rushed out to the scene and consoled one another after a coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Bauer was struck hard enough that his body came to rest in a ditch at the side of Walker Road.
“There’s an investigation ongoing. There’s no suspicion of alcohol or anything like that at this time.” Sgt. Mike Burton of the OPP said in a statement.
Many have noted that Walker Road is a high traffic area where many drivers tend to speed down the roads. The area is also not well-lit which can be dangerous for those who go to collect their mail near the road where their boxes are located.
