Two cyclists were injured in a Windsor car dooring incident as they were riding down Wyandotte Street East on Thursday.
The incident happened at the intersection near Parent Street shortly before 1 p.m. when the driver of a minivan, which was parked between the marked bicycle lane and the curb, suddenly opened the vehicle’s door. The two cyclists crashed into the door sustaining injuries that Windsor police said “appeared to be non-life-threatening.” One of the bikes was seen on the road next to the bike lane following the crash.
Police Response to the Crash
Police partially closed the intersection at Wyandotte Street East and Parent Street for several hours to allow for emergency response and an investigation. The public have been asked to avoid the area during the investigation.
Non-Criminal Charges Laid Against the Driver
The driver was not criminally charged following the incident, but police have laid a Highway Traffic Act charge against the driver for improperly opening a vehicle door.
