Cabana Road reopens after a three-car collision in South Windsor. It happened at the intersection of Cabana Road West and Dominion Boulevard.
Authorities say the collision occurred when a driver in an SUV ran a red light and slammed into a nearby vehicle. Following the initial collision, a third car also crashed into the intersection.
Amber light accidents are often the result of speeding or aggressive driving, which can be prevented. This is why officials encourage drivers to plan ahead and expect traffic conditions. Follow speed limits so it will be much easier to stop when approaching a signal that is turning red.
Windsor police say while the woman in the car that was hit had to be removed from her vehicle with assistance from Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, it is amazing that no one was seriously injured.
Some common reasons for people running red lights include:
- Failing to recognize changing signal
- Speeding to make the light
- Tailgating
- Texting while driving
- Reckless Driving
Another interruption drivers want to avoid is rubbernecking. Thats when a driver tries to get a glimpse of the scene of an accident. There have even been situations where motorists who have slowed down at crash scenes have been charged with distracted driving.
On top of that drivers can also face careless driving charges, where fines range in the thousands and potential license suspensions of up to six months in jail.
