One Single-Vehicle Collision

The first collision occurred on Thursday just after 3:30 p.m. in LaSalle. According to police, a Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling east on Monty Street left the road and collided with a light pole. The accident occurred between Malden Road and Matchette Road.

The impact of the collision caused the driver to be ejected from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision.

Anyone who witnessed or may have any information about the accident is encouraged to contact the LaSalle Police Service.

Two Highway 401 Tractor Trailer Collisions

Shortly thereafter, around 4 p.m. a five-vehicle collision involving transport trucks injured one driver.

Police reported that the chain-reaction crash happened in the construction zone of Highway 401 near Communication Road.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Constable, slow traffic caused one transport truck to come a sudden stop in the eastbound lanes. Another truck behind it managed to stop in time to avoid hitting the truck, but was then pushed into the back of the first truck when a third transport truck slammed into the back of it. Two additional passenger vehicles also collided into the back of the third truck.

The highway was closed for five hours through Chatham.

Then, early Friday morning around 6 a.m. two tractor trailers collided in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 just west of Dougall Parkway. The collision sent one of the trucks hurdling through a concrete wall next to the road where it rolled onto its side.

Minor injuries were reported and traffic was moving slowly through the area for about three hours.

OPP is warning motorists to slow down and pay attention for safe driving through construction zones. Construction in the area has been a hotbed for serious collisions in recent weeks. A July 30 multi-vehicle collision involving tractor trailers near the same area led to the death of a woman and her son.
