A motorist is facing traffic charges following a Tuesday early morning crash that damaged electrical infrastructure and sent one person to hospital.
The collision happened at the intersection of Highway 40 and Countryview Line in Chatham-Kent. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the incident and determined that a traffic control violation played a role in causing the crash.

First responders arrived at about 7:40 Tuesday morning to the intersection where two vehicles had collided. The force of the crash was so severe that it knocked down a nearby hydro pole.
Emergency crews transported one of the drivers involved to hospital, but the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
The toppled power pole created hazardous conditions that prevented motorists from being able to safely travel through the area. OPP closed the road to traffic for a few hours so workers could repair the pole and restore power. Traffic resumed flowing normally about four hours later — once crews finished their work.
According to a recent news report, police determined a Windsor resident, aged 25, violated traffic laws by failing to fully stop before entering the intersection. The individual is now facing Highway Traffic Act charges related to the stop sign violation.
