Toddler Fatally Injured in Highway 3 Crash Near Kingsville-Leamington Border

A three-vehicle collision at the Kingsville-Leamington border has claimed the life of a 15-month-old child and left several others injured. According to AM800, Ontario Provincial Police say emergency crews responded at approximately 10:10 a.m. on March 9, 2026, to the intersection of Highway 3 and County Road 31. Police reported the 15-month-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to those injuries. The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, while three other people from the other involved vehicles were treated for minor injuries.

Police have asked anyone who may have seen the collision or who may have dashcam footage to come forward. Highway 3 and County Road 31 were closed during the investigation and reopened Tuesday afternoon.

Why Early Investigation Matters in a Serious Collision Case

In a crash involving multiple vehicles, the early stages of the investigation can be very important. Police, collision reconstruction personnel, witness accounts, dashcam footage, vehicle damage, roadway markings, and scene evidence may all help clarify how the collision unfolded. AM800 reported that investigators are specifically asking to hear from anyone who observed the crash or who may have relevant dashcam footage.

That request is significant because evidence may not remain available for long. Video can be overwritten, witness memories can fade, and physical evidence may change once vehicles are moved or repaired. Preserving information as early as possible may help clarify what happened and whether further legal action should be considered.

Families May Be Left Facing Medical, Legal, and Financial Questions

After a fatal or serious crash, families are often left confronting grief, uncertainty, and a range of practical concerns at once. In addition to emotional trauma, there may be hospital-related issues, insurance questions, lost income, funeral expenses, and uncertainty about what rights or claims may exist.

Where a child has died and another family member has suffered serious injuries, the impact can be overwhelming. Even occupants who initially appear to have less severe injuries may later develop complications, ongoing pain, psychological trauma, or limitations that affect daily life. In the days immediately following a collision, families are often not in a position to investigate these issues on their own.

In these types of instances, Greg Monforton & Partners may be able to assist by helping families understand their legal options, reviewing the known facts of the collision and explaining how Ontario insurance and accident benefit issues may apply. Depending on the circumstances, we may also assess whether there may be grounds for a civil claim and help injured victims and grieving families better understand the steps that may follow.
