Two Fatal Pedestrian Accidents Reported Near North York

Two fatal pedestrian accidents were reported on Thursday near North York along Highway 400 and near Yonge Street.

Early Thursday morning, an 82-year-old woman from Vaughn was pronounced dead on the scene after being struck by a vehicle while walking along Highway 400. Her family had reported her missing around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Initially, the driver who hit the elderly woman fled the scene, but he turned himself in later in the afternoon. He was arrested for failing to stop at the scene of a collision involving death.

Nearly 12 hours later, Toronto Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene of an auto accident near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue. A pedestrian who was on the sidewalk nearby was hit and died as a result. The circumstances surrounding the initial accident are still under investigation.
