A tragic collision in Middlesex County has claimed the life of a 17-year-old driver from Thorndale.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the crash happened Monday afternoon on Medway Road, approximately half a kilometre east of Medway High School. Police say the crash involved a small SUV and a westbound feed truck. Early indications suggest the SUV crossed the centre line before the impact.
The young driver of the SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the feed truck sustained minor injuries and was treated on site.
Witnesses described the sound of the collision as explosive, with debris scattered across the roadway. The impact was severe enough to send the truck into a roadside hydro pole. Constable Jeff Hare of Middlesex OPP noted the scene was one of the most impactful collisions officers had recently responded to.
Medway Road remains closed between Richmond Street and Adelaide Street while investigators examine the crash site. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Understanding the Impact of Fatal Crashes
Losing a loved one in a sudden collision is devastating for families and communities. In Ontario, families may be entitled to accident benefits under the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS), regardless of who was at fault. These benefits can help with medical expenses, funeral costs, and other supports during a difficult time.
When another driver may be responsible, surviving family members can also pursue a wrongful death claim for additional compensation. These cases are complex and require a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
