The legal community is mourning the death of respected defence lawyer Brian Ducharme who unexpectedly passed away this week at the age of 71.
Family members, friends and coworkers are saddened by this tremendous loss.
Ducharme devoted his career to providing skilled representation defending against drinking and driving cases in Windsor and throughout Ontario. He was well-known for being an affable gentleman and a recognized leader in his profession.
Ducharme was also past president of the Liberal Party of Ontario and ran for parliament at both the federal and provincial levels. He was a member of The Windsor Club, Beach Grove Golf & Country Club and Windsor Yacht Club.
Those who personally knew and worked with Ducharme are remembering him most for his honesty, tenacity and generosity. He was a caring advocate for his clients and was a mentor to his fellow peers.
According to the Windsor Star, Ducharme helped out and gave back to the local community whenever he could. He served as a volunteer board member with Hiatus House, a shelter for victims of domestic violence as well as Iris House, which provides support and services to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
Firm founders Greg Monforton and Brad Robitaille were former law partners with Ducharme for 20 years and dear friends. “All of my family and friends knew Brian well,” said Monforton. “We are in a state of shock. This was totally unexpected. There were no signs of any health issues, so we are heartbroken.”
A funeral service will be held on Monday at Good Shepard Parish in Lakeshore. Ducharme is survived by his companion, close friends and loved ones.
