Around 1 p.m., the driver of a minivan was headed southbound on Chilver Road. The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Richmond Road when the collision occurred. There is a stop sign for motorists on Chilver, so there is a possibility that the crash occurred as a result of failing to stop at a stop sign.
The driver of the van and her nine-month-old infant were taken to a local hospital, it is not known if they were injured. Accident scene images show damage to the side of the minivan and the deployment of side airbags.
Accident reconstruction specialists were on the scene as an investigation is underway. Sgt. Matthew DAsti of Windsor Police says that charges are pending.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
In 2012, it seemed as though fatal motorcycle accidents in Canada would continue decreasing. However, in 2013, once again, the number of reported motorcyclists fatally injured in crashes spiked by 14 percent.
Additionally, the number of licensed motorcycles in the country have continued to increase. As more and more motorcyclists take to the roads, motorists must remember to check twice for motorcycles.
When passing through a stop sign and switching lanes be sure to check for an oncoming motorcycle twice, it could save someones life.
