Charges Laid Against Driver After Rear-Ending Motorcyclist

driver charged rear-ending motorcycleThe OPP charged a driver for rear-ending a motorcyclist in Tecumseh last Saturday morning and then attempting to flee the scene.

Tecumseh OPP and Essex-Windsor EMS responded to the report of a collision on Manning Road just before 7:50 a.m. on September 3rd.

According to an AM800 news report, Provincial police said a male driver was operating his Audi along Manning Road when he hit a portable toilet. The driver did not stop but continued driving, rear-ending a motorcycle in the process.

Charges Laid Against Driver

After striking the motorcycle, Windsor Star News says the driver attempted to flee the scene on foot. Fortunately, police located the driver not far from the scene. During his arrest, the 30-year-old driver assaulted the officer who was taking him into custody.

The charges laid against Elliott Robert Bowen include Failure to Stop, Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm, Mischief (valued under $5,000) and Assault With Intent to Resist Arrest.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on October 4th.

Motorcyclist Transported to Hospital

The rear-ended motorcyclist was transported to hospital for treatment of injuries. However, according to Tecumseh police, the injuries were not life-threatening.

Public Asked to Report Suspicious Driving

Following this collision, Essex County OPP urged the public to report any suspicious driving activity, such as driving while intoxicated, by calling 9-1-1 immediately.
