Windsor Personal Injury Lawyers Advocate for Injured Ontarians at Queen’s Park

Joanna Sweet and others at OTLA Lobby Day 2025

Last week, Greg Monforton & Partners joined fellow Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) members at Queen’s Park for the association’s annual Lobby Day. Several members of our team were there to participate in discussions about the future of statutory accident benefits (SABs) and access to justice in Ontario.

What Is OTLA Lobby Day?

OTLA Lobby Day brings together personal injury lawyers from across Ontario to meet directly with Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) at Queen’s Park.

This year, OTLA members met with nearly 40 MPPs from across the province to discuss changes to Statutory Accident Benefits, ensuring that the voices of injured Ontarians are heard by those who create and shape our laws.

Our firm’s managing partner, Joanna Sweet was in attendance and met with several MPPs including the Honourable Doug Downey, Ontario’s Attorney General, as well as policy advisors for the Premier’s office and Ministry of Finance. Associate lawyers and OTLA members Jaclyn Habas and Irina Rosca also attended and connected with many MPPs, including Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky during this important day of advocacy.

Why Does Lobby Day Matter for Windsor Residents?

For anyone in Windsor who has been injured due to someone else’s negligence, the discussions at Lobby Day directly impact your rights and recovery. Our legal team works alongside other OTLA members to ensure that provincial regulations protect accident victims, not insurance company profits.

Lobby Day 2025’s Evening Reception

The day concluded with an evening reception attended by approximately 20 MPPs, where leaders from all parties addressed the importance of protecting accident victims’ rights.

Speakers included:

  • The Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General
  • Kristyn Wong-Tam, NDP Critic for the Attorney General
  • Lucille Collard, Liberal Critic for the Attorney General

This cross-party participation demonstrates that protecting injured Ontarians transcends political lines.

What This Advocacy Work Means for Windsor Residents

If you’ve been injured in Windsor or anywhere in Essex County, know that your local personal injury lawyers are fighting for your rights at the highest levels of government. The Lobby Day advocacy work at Queen’s Park works hard to ensure that:

  • You receive fair compensation for your injuries
  • Insurance companies can’t take advantage of you
  • The legal system works efficiently for injury victims
  • Your voice is heard by decision-makers
