A driver has been charged with careless driving after causing a head-on collision on Saturday, Aug. 13 that injured several people.
According to police, the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on Division Road near Marentette Avenue.
Police stated that a Dodge Charger was traveling south on Division Road when it attempted to turn left onto Marentette avenue. It turned directly into the path of a Volkswagen car that was traveling north, causing the two vehicles to collide head-on.
Despite damage to the front of both vehicles, all occupants in the vehicles suffered only minor injuries. There were two people in each vehicle.
At the conclusion of an investigation into the cause of the accident, police charged the driver of the Dodge Charger with careless driving.
According to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, careless driving is considered driving “without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the highway.” This can include both intentional and accidental actions that put other drivers or pedestrians in danger.
Those convicted of careless driving could receive six demerit points on their license and can face a fine between $400 and $2,000, up to six months in jail and a license suspension for up to two years.
Careless driving places everyone on the highway in great danger and often leads to serious accidents. If you have been injured or lost a loved one in an accident caused by a careless driver, you may be entitled to compensation.
