Police charged the driver with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. The driver’s vehicle was also seized.

Search for Hit-and-Run Driver

Windsor Police had been searching for the hit-and-run driver since Friday. They studied surveillance video footage of the vehicle and tried to find witnesses to the accident.

The crash happened last Friday night at about 8 p.m. at Ellis Street East and Elsmere. The victim was a 33-year-old man who died at the hospital from his injuries.

Investigators reviewed footage that shows a dark-coloured 2008, 2009 or 2010 Dodge Caravan with severe damage to its front end. The vehicle was missing its emblem.

Windsor Police urged the driver of this vehicle to turn himself or herself in. Windsor Police also encouraged any auto body shops that were asked to repair a similar vehicle to call them.

The police say there was a witness at the scene of the crash in a blue vehicle that looked like an SUV. The driver of this vehicle was heading north on Elsmere Avenue. The driver stopped the car near the crash for several minutes.

The video of the hit-and-run vehicle has been released to the public. Police asked the public to watch the video and contact the Major Crimes Unit (519-255-6700, ext. 4830) with any information they can provide.
