The Friday afternoon crash between a 59-year-old bicyclist and a Chevrolet Cruze left the bicyclist with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. in LaSalle at the intersection of Todd Lane and Canada Street. The 82-year-old who was heading west on Todd Lane started to make a left turn onto Canada Street. As the driver was making the turn, the bicyclist was heading east on Todd Lane through the intersection.
Witnesses say the cyclist tried to avoid a crash but got hit by the car in the crosswalk on Canada Street. The impact knocked the bicyclist to the ground and pinned him under the front of the vehicle.
Emergency crews took the bicyclist to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries and police said they do not expect the injuries to be life-threatening.
The intersection was closed until around 8:30 p.m. so the authorities could investigate the scene. Police charged the driver with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm. Police suspended the driver’s license for three days because he had more than 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.
If you have information about the crash, police are asking that you get in touch with Constable Sean Bear by calling 519-969-5210. If you live in the area, the authorities are asking that you review residential surveillance video to determine if there is footage of the crash.
