A Little About the Dr. Richard Boyd Men’s Health Program
This year’s charity golf tournament at Windsor Regional Hospital supports The Dr. Richard Boyd Regional Comprehensive Men’s Health Program. This program honors the late Dr. Richard Boyd; a Windsor-born urologist who was instrumental in spearheading a program that specifically focused on men’s health. Dr. Boyd graduated from Western University’s medical school in 1968 and served as head of urology at Windsor General Hospital until his death in 2008. A capital campaign raised $5.4 million for the initiative.
Launched with provincial funding in 2014, the program addresses a critical healthcare gap in the Erie St. Clair region where approximately 50 percent of prostate cancer patients had to undergo surgery outside the region. This program coordinates patient care through multi-disciplinary teams and nurse navigators, offering Da Vinci robotic surgery and other advanced treatment closer to home.
