Ceana Ussoletti was called to the Bar in London Thursday night — and we couldn’t be more proud! Ceana’s call to the Bar is the culmination of years of study, dedication, and hard work.
Greg Monforton, one of our founding partners, joined her at the ceremony and had the honour of serving as Presenter of Candidates to the Treasurer of the Law Society and to the Chief Justice of Ontario.
There’s something meaningful about having Greg present Ceana at this milestone. She completed her articles with us, and now she takes the next step into the profession with the full support of the firm behind her.
What Is Articling?
For those unfamiliar with the process, articling is a mandatory period of supervised, hands-on legal training that every law graduate in Ontario must complete before being called to the Bar. It bridges the gap between law school and independent legal practice. It’s where new lawyers learn what the profession actually looks like from the inside.
Being Called to the Bar
The Call to the Bar is the formal ceremony that makes becoming a lawyer official. Standing before the Chief Justice of Ontario and the Treasurer of the Law Society, the candidate is sworn in and admitted as a member of the legal profession. From that moment forward, they have the legal authority to practise law and represent clients.
The “Bar” itself refers to the railing that historically separated judges and lawyers from the public in a courtroom. Being called to the Bar meant being invited to cross into the space reserved for legal professionals. The phrase has stuck for centuries.
On Monday, Ceana joins Greg Monforton & Partners as an Associate Lawyer
On Monday, Ceana begins the first chapter in her legal career. Having completed her articles with us, Ceana already knows our team, our culture, and the work we do for injured people across Windsor-Essex. We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome Ceana to Greg Monforton & Partners as an associate lawyer.
