windsor injury lawyer joanna sweetThis morning, Joanna Sweet, managing partner of Greg Monforton & Partners and Vice President of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA), moderated part 3 of a five-part Civil Rules Review Focus Group. This week’s interactive group discussion focused on, “Civil Rules Review – Reforming Motions Practice.”

The session gathered input for OTLA’s response to the Phase 2 consultation on civil justice system reforms. Discussion topics included interlocutory dispute processes, direction conferences, formal motions, motions to remove counsel, and pleadings motions.

The focus group provided an opportunity for legal professionals to share insights directly with the Board and committees responsible for shaping OTLA’s official response to these proposed procedural changes.

On Friday, May 23rd at 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. ET, OTLA VP-Elect Joanna Sweet will moderate Part 4 of the Civil Rules Review focus groups, “Expert Evidence and Pre-Trial and Trial Procedures.”

This session will explore potential reforms to pretrial conferences, expert evidence presentation, and document management. OTLA members are encouraged to attend and contribute to shaping the future of Ontario’s civil justice system.

Part 5 and Final Discussion in the Civil Rules Review Focus Group Series

Please take note that this Friday, May 30 at 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET, OTLA VP-Elect Joanna Sweet returns to moderate Part 5 of the Civil Rules Review focus group series. Part 5 of this series is entitled, “Civil Rules Review – Post-Trial Processes and Delays, Costs and Miscellaneous.”

This panel discussion will cover fixed hearing dates, appeals, Pierringer Agreements and class proceedings, as well as costs.
