We are proud to share that our co-founding partner, Greg Monforton, was invited to present at the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) Spring Conference on Friday, May 8, 2025.
Greg shared in his capacity as both an experienced plaintiff lawyer and advocate for injured Ontarians.
What Is the OTLA?
The Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA) is a provincial organisation representing plaintiff lawyers. These lawyers advocate for individuals who have been harmed by the negligence or wrongdoing of others.
Founded in 1991, the OTLA benefits the greater community by working to strengthen Ontario’s civil justice system and improving access to justice for everyday people. A further benefit is to support the ongoing education of its members — lawyers in your community. The association serves more than 1,400 lawyers across the province.
The annual OTLA conference brings together plaintiff lawyers from across Ontario for:
- Continuing Education
- Exchanging ideas
- Engaging in Advocacy discussions shaping how injury victims are represented in provincial courts.
Greg’s Presentation: Jury Questions and the Judge’s Charge in an MVA Case

Greg Monforton’s presentation, Jury Questions and the Judge’s charge in an MV Case — What to Ask, When to Object, and Why. focused on one of the most nuanced aspects of civil jury trial preparation: developing questions designed to persuade a jury to reach the verdict an injured client needs and deserves.
General Principles of Jury Preparation
Greg covered the general principles of jury question preparation in his session, including how to align those questions with the trial judge’s charge. He also addressed the practical and strategic steps involved in gaining the support of both defence counsel and the trial judge when putting those questions forward.
Protecting the Client’s Interest
Moving beyond the general principles of jury preparation, Greg addressed some broader, but critical aspects of a trial judge’s charge:
- How plaintiff lawyers can work to ensure the charge properly reflects the law
- What steps a lawyer can take to protect a client’s interests and put the matter on record if it doesn’t
How Questions Can Have a Profound Impact on the Outcome
For lawyers who represent injury victims in Windsor, ON and across Ontario, this kind of practical, in-the-courtroom guidance is invaluable. Jury trials in motor vehicle accident cases are complex. The way questions are framed — and how a judge instructs a jury — can have a profound impact on the outcome for an injured person and their family.
Greg’s Commitment to the Legal Community
Being invited to present at the OTLA reflects a depth of courtroom experience that goes well beyond everyday legal practice.
At Greg Monforton & Partners, we have always believed that strong advocacy for injured clients does not stop at the office door. It extends to the broader legal community.
We don’t just represent injured persons in court. Our entire legal team is dedicated to sharing knowledge, raising standards, and contributing to a justice system that works better for the people who need it most.
We are proud of Greg’s ongoing contribution to that work.
At Greg Monforton & Partners, we look forward to more opportunities to serve our community with the same commitment to excellence.
