Today, firm partner Dina Mejalli had the opportunity to present a webinar to clinicians at Rehab First titled, “The Law of Damages and the Role of the Health Care Provider.”
Rehab First is a multidisciplinary health services provider that specializes in the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and care of individuals with serious impairments due to an injury or illness.
The general rule in civil litigation in Ontario and across Canada is that any injured party has the right to be compensated for damages that another party causes them to suffer. The compensation awarded could include economic damages, such as medical expenses and lost wages, and non-economic damages, such as pain and suffering or mental distress.
Dina touched on the important role health care providers have not only in the overall well-being of patients, but also in understanding their legal needs. For instance, patients may require legal assistance when disputing a plan’s refusal to cover medical services recommended by a doctor.
We thank Dina for sharing her valuable insight on this important matter.
On Wednesday, March 31st, partner Dina Mejalli was involved in the Windsor Law Revue for the University of Windsor Faculty of Law.
The live event and chat aired at 6 p.m. on the school’s YouTube channel. Faculty, staff, students and alumni all came together to mark the completion of the 2020-2021 academic year and the conclusion of Dean Chris Waters’ term. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the resilience of the Windsor Law community during these unprecedented times.
As a 2004 graduate and sessional instructor for the university teaching insurance law, Dina shared a few words of wisdom on the importance of standing together as a community and the kinds of abilities that are essential in the pursuit of social justice.
The showcase featured special greetings from additional alumni as well as the Chief Justice of Ontario and the deans from Windsor Law and Detroit Mercy Law. The night even included stand-up, spoken word and musical performances.
Over the past 50 years, Windsor Law has earned distinction among law schools for its emphasis on educating ethical, justice-seeking lawyers through teaching, research, advocacy and service.
