One Person Killed in Rollover Crash on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent

orange road closure signOntario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene of a fatal crash just after 1 a.m. on Tuesday. One vehicle rolled over on Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent, causing one of the occupants to be killed.

The crash happened on the westbound side of the highway.

As OPP was headed to the crash site, they were informed of another collision involving the same passenger vehicle and a transport truck.

The crash caused the transport truck to cross the center median and the lanes on the eastern side of the road. The truck came to rest in a nearby field.

The two occupants of the passenger vehicle were taken to hospital. The 41-year-old passenger died from crash injuries, while the other occupant was not critically injured. The only occupant of the truck was the driver, and this person did not get injured in the crash with the passenger vehicle.

Officials had to close the highway for a few hours. The closure was from Kent Bridge Road to Communication Road and included both sides of the road.

If you have a dashcam recording of the crash or watched it happen, you can call OPP in Elgin County (1-888-310-1122).
