Youth seriously injured in corn field

A 14-year-old boy remains in a London hospital after falling from a pickup truck in a corn field east of Chatham Monday afternoon.

Police said the boy was sitting on the tail gate when it opened, sending the youth to the ground as the truck was backing up at about 12:30 p.m.

Three other boys riding in the truck were not injured.

The youth were working as corn detasselers in a field on Jenner Line, just east of Snobelen Road, at the time of the mishap.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service traffic management unit continues to investigate.
