Less than a month ago, Honda, Toyota and Nissan expanded the number of vehicles recalled for defective Takata airbags. Thousands of Canadian vehicles were recalled during this time. The most recent recall, issued on May 28, 2015, includes vehicles manufactured by:

  • Honda
  • Chrysler
  • BMW
  • Ford

The recall adds to previous Takata recalls, which include vehicle models that date back to 2008. Honda, who has thus far recalled the largest number of vehicles for Takata airbags, is recalling 704,770 vehicles in Canada.

Notifications to vehicle owners are set to begin this month. Those affected by the recall are encouraged to get in touch with a local vehicle dealer to have the replacement parts installed as soon as possible.

Although the replacement parts are being rushed to meet the needs to vehicle owners, there is no real assurance that these parts will not have problems as well.

Transport Canada intends to continue to minor the issue closely. For a full list of recalls visit https://www.tc.gc.ca.
