Six Killed, Nine Injured in Southwest Ontario Accidents Over Weekend

night rollover accidentOPP is currently investigating a number of accidents throughout southwestern Ontario over the weekend that left six people dead and another nine seriously injured. Two accidents occurred in Essex County.

One person was transported to a Chatham hospital then airlifted to a hospital in London with life-threatening injuries after being ejected from a truck during a single-vehicle crash.

The accident happened on Essex County Road 46 at the intersection of Richardson Sideroad in Lakeshore around 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the man was a passenger in a Ford pickup truck that was traveling east on County Road 46 when it was involved in a single-vehicle crash that caused the truck to leave the highway and rollover before coming to rest on its side against a tree.

The driver also suffered minor injuries and was rushed to Chatham’s Public General Hospital.

Another accident on Sunday evening killed one and injured two others. According to Ontario Provincial Police, a motorcycle struck three pedestrians on Fraser Road between Seacliff Drive West and Erie View Road in Leamington around 9:35 p.m.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and two others were transported to local hospitals, one with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the motorcyclist was traveling south on a section of the road that is known to be a quiet rural residential road with no sidewalks or streetlights.

In Elgin County, police have confirmed that two people were killed in a collision involving a dump truck, a pickup truck and an SUV Friday evening at Highbury Avenue and Ferguson Line. Three others were transported to local hospitals with injuries.

Two single-vehicle accidents in Middlesex County killed two and seriously injured another who was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Another single-vehicle crash along Lambton Line near Bothwell in Lambton County killed one person. Police are also investigating how an 18-year-old man ended up in the roadway on LaSalle Line suffering from serious injuries.
