Windsor Citizen Helps Police Stop Impaired Driver

police lights for DUIWindsor police are crediting an alert citizen with the arrest of a dangerously impaired driver whose blood alcohol content was six times the legal limit of 0.08.

According to reports, around 8 p.m. Tuesday, the citizen witnessed a Silver Dodge Ram pickup truck slam into a traffic light pole at 1925 Division Road. The truck struck the light with so much force that the pole fell into the street.

The truck then left the scene of the accident in an erratic manner, swerving and often weaving into oncoming traffic.

The unidentified citizen then contacted police and continued to follow the truck, updating police on its location.

Police were able to apprehend the driver once he pulled into a parking lot on Provincial Road after driving over a curb and striking a fire route sign.

Police arrested the 50-year-old driver who will face charges of exceeding a breath test, driving while impaired and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Because of the man’s dangerous level of intoxication, he was transported to the hospital. Shortly thereafter, he was cleared and returned to Windsor police headquarters.
