accident victimThree people were taken to the hospital after a car crashed through the front window of a local Royal Bank on July 3, 2015.

The light blue vehicle, a Chrysler Sebring, crashed through the front door and eventually came to a stop after smashing into the banks framing.

The driver and two customers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. According to reports, one victim was not injured by the vehicle or debris, but by the rush of customers trying to get out of harms way.

The incident remains under investigation. However, this is the second time this type of situation has happened in the area. Just a few years ago, a business adjacent to the strip mall was slammed into by a driver.

There is no raised curb between parking spaces and the businesses, which means that drivers who mistake the break and accelerator can quickly cause a serious incident.

Although unintended acceleration accidents may seem rare, one simple misstep can lead to disastrous consequences. The precise number of pedal error accidents in Canada is unknown, but the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that at least 16,000 collisions in the U.S. are caused by unintended acceleration.

Younger drivers with inexperience and drivers over the age of 65 experience pedal error crashes more frequently.
